I have two 300B Mizushima amps and they sound terrific both, but interestingly they sound different, each one of them has its own character which makes a lot of fun to compare their sounds with the same and different 300B tubes. It is quite an experience to deal with Kenji, I guess is like making a deal with an ancient tradicional Japanese master but in this case he builds amps and not swords. And then he buys each component at the electronic market in Tokyo which sometimes require for him to actually travel to Tokyo (US$ 20 round trip by train). He takes time to design and build the amp with frequent consultation regarding the specs the customer wants: speaker impedance, one or two inputs, quality and brand of the output transformers, for 220 or 100 volts, etc. I have paid them by transfer to his bank account, but my last payment to him was via PayPal. How was the experience? Communication? Payment? etc. So, you wil have two amps from Kenji? Picutres sure would be cool. Sound is clear, natural, and truly faithful to the quality of the recordings, I enjoy them most fed from a Rega Planar 8 turntable with MC cartridge and connected to a pair of Altec A7-500 speakers. They are handcrafted and their build quality is lovely in their classic design. ![]() Hi, I have a pair of 300B Mizushima single-ended amps and their sound is as good as it gets with single-ended tube amplifiers. Nothing comes in my mind for reviews than that. I found somewhere long time ago a customer review on one audioblog. Only review you can find is on his site by customers who purchase from him. If you are willing to shop outside of Europe and spend the bucks, then there's also Triode Labs, Aric Audio, Audio Note Kit and others. I think 92db speakers should be good unless you are looking to shatter windows. Willsenton might be the best of the bunch but I didn't want 300b or PP. Watching some video on the Chinese amps turned me off as some of them need upgrades to be 'really' good and for some of them the parts selection and design is suspect. The reason I go SET is to remove as many things from the signal path as possible. It has boards and for me unwanted features like the ability to switch to 300b and feedback/non feedback. I did upgrade the coupling caps but the ones supplied are adequate. Kit has great parts no need to upgrade anything. All point to point wiring, which I wanted. Mainly because is it was an amp only and not integrated although it does have a volume knob (which allowed me to remove my pre from the chain). I looked at every kit I could find plus full builds.Įnded up with the Legendarium. And on the opposite, I quite never listen to metal, techno and very few rock n roll which means less tubby sounding.ītw, what I like the most are female vocals, piano, stringed instruments and speaking of genres I would say mainly pop, jazz, reggae, electronic, rap. And apparently this amp sound signature is really in the 'modern' category. But there's very few review and comparison to other tube amplifiers. The Elekit attracted me quite a bit because of it's ability to put either 2A3 or 300B tubes. And the other problem with this amp is the wait. almost all 300b amp which I came through have 8w. I was also considering the new Decware Sarah amp but it'll be ~5k and on what I heard and only 4w which is a bit strange for a 300b amp. I would really like to buy some 2A3 or 300b amplifier (2A3 would be better for tube prices but not sure it's powerful enough. Did anyone of you compare some Elekit 8600 or 8900 to some chinese alternative like the Willsenton R300 or even other non-diy amps?
